Welcome to the Shiyi website and the browser extension “Shiyi | Content Assistant.” This Privacy Policy applies to the Shiyi website, the browser extension, and the related account, credit, recognition, export, payment, and supporting services directly connected to them.

This Policy explains what information we process, why we process it, when information is processed locally or sent to our servers, which service providers may receive necessary data, and how you can control these processing activities. If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not register, sign in, install, purchase, or continue using the Shiyi services.

2. What Information We Process

Depending on the features you use, we may process the following categories of information:

2.1 Account and session information

Purpose: To complete OCR image recognition or ASR speech/audio/video transcription that you explicitly request.

  • Extension settings
  • Locally cached task state
  • Local UI preferences
  • Certain browser-side stored information

Purpose: To save settings, restore task state, reduce repetitive setup, and improve user experience.

2.5 Operational logs and error information

Examples include:

  • Request failure reasons
  • Interface status codes
  • Task progress
  • Error logs
  • Basic browser environment information
  • Necessary security audit records

Purpose: To troubleshoot issues, maintain service stability, provide security protection, prevent abuse, and perform necessary operational audits.

2.6 Locally exported files

Examples include:

  • Markdown files
  • Cover images
  • Other exported files that you explicitly request

Purpose: To save exported results to your local device according to your explicit instruction.

3. Browser Extension Permissions and Their Use

The browser extension may use the following permissions:

activeTab

Used to read publicly visible content on the currently active page you choose, in order to complete content collection or processing that you explicitly initiate.

tabs

Used to identify the current tab state and open or switch pages when necessary for the action you initiate.

scripting

Used to inject necessary scripts into the target page in order to extract publicly visible content, parse page structures, or read resource links.

storage

Used to locally save settings, login state, task state, and necessary configuration data in the browser.

downloads

Used to save exported Markdown files, cover images, or other export results to your local device when you explicitly request a download.

sidePanel

Used to display the extension interface in the browser side panel.

Site access permissions

Used to access the target pages you explicitly choose to process, the Shiyi backend services, and the requests required to complete OCR, ASR, sign-in, credit, and export functions.

4. Local Processing and Server-Side Processing

4.1 Local processing

The following processing usually takes place locally in your browser:

  • Certain parts of public page parsing and extraction
  • Storage of extension settings and certain task states
  • Generation and download of locally exported files
  • Certain UI state and interaction logic

4.2 Server-side processing

Necessary information may be sent to the Shiyi backend when:

  • You explicitly sign in or query account, membership, credit, or order information
  • You explicitly trigger OCR or ASR features
  • You explicitly initiate credit consumption, entitlement redemption, payment, refund verification, or after-sales support
  • You initiate export, synchronization, or risk-control requests that require server participation

4.3 Third-party infrastructure services

When you explicitly use OCR, ASR, or similar features, the Shiyi backend may call third-party cloud or model infrastructure services to complete the processing. We do not share your data for ad targeting, data resale, or profiling unrelated to the core product functions.

5. How We Use Information

We process information for the following purposes:

  1. To provide content collection, organization, export, OCR, ASR, account, and credit-related functions
  2. To complete sign-in, authentication, membership checks, order fulfillment, and after-sales support
  3. To maintain service stability, troubleshoot issues, and provide security protection
  4. To prevent abuse, anomalous requests, fraud, or other conduct that may harm system security
  5. To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal process, regulatory requirements, or other compliance obligations

We do not use information submitted through the service for:

  • Ad targeting
  • Selling user data to third parties
  • Commercial profiling unrelated to the core product features
  • Credit evaluation, lending decisions, or other purposes unrelated to your use of the product

6. With Whom We Share Information

To the extent necessary to provide the service, we may share necessary information with the following parties:

  1. Shiyi’s own backend services. For sign-in, authentication, credits, orders, exports, risk control, and service fulfillment.
  2. Third-party cloud or model service providers. To complete OCR, ASR, or other technical processing that you explicitly request.
  3. Payment service providers. To process payments, refunds, and order verification.
  4. Authorities or institutions as required by law. Where disclosure is required by applicable law, legal process, regulatory requirement, or lawful request from competent authorities.

We only share necessary information to provide the relevant feature, fulfill legal obligations, or address security risks.

7. Data Retention and Security

7.1 Local data

Settings, task states, and cached data stored locally in your browser generally remain on your device until you clear them, uninstall the extension, or reset related browser data.

7.2 Server-side data

Data related to accounts, orders, credits, logs, security auditing, and after-sales support may be retained for a reasonable and necessary period for fulfillment, dispute handling, security review, compliance retention, and troubleshooting.

7.3 Security measures

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information security, such as:

9. Third-Party Platform Content Notice

Shiyi is a user-initiated content processing and assistance tool. We do not continuously capture the webpages you browse in the background without your active action.

The extension only processes the target page or corresponding resources when you explicitly open the side panel, click collect, export, OCR, ASR, or use another related feature.

You are responsible for ensuring that:

  • You have a lawful basis to access and use the relevant content, account, page, or data
  • Your actions comply with applicable laws, regulations, and the rules of the target platform
  • You bear responsibility for the consequences of collecting, exporting, storing, or further using the content

10. Minors

If you are a minor, please use the Shiyi services only after your parent or legal guardian has read and agreed to this Policy.
